The works consisted of the construction of a new single-storey residential block containing 5 individual apartments for Gheel Autism at Griffith Court, Dublin 3. The site is contained within the existing Gheel daycare centre which provides daycare for autistic adults. The new units provide independent living space for autistic adults.
The units are constructed in load-bearing masonry with a zinc-clad timber roof. All plant is located within the central area of the block and distributed to each unit seperately. The plant room is air-ventilated via large louvres on the high level roof section.
The works were carried out in close proximity to the service users of the autism care center and constant liaison between the design team, the client and the contractor was required to ensure no undue distress was caused to the residents.
