In 2008, Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates (CSEA) were appointed by Tipperary County Council as part of a Specialist Consultant Team led by Margaret Quinlan, Architect, to undertake the survey, conservation and repair of the historic Fethard Town Walls.
The importance of these walls in the Irish context is well established and the Draft Conservation and Management Plan by Oxford Archaeology sets out the significance in a thorough and detailed manner.
The approach adopted by the team was one in which the careful recording and analysis of the structures and appraisal of their condition formed the basis of any interventions undertaken.
The work is ongoing with repairs and conservation of the southern section of the walls now completed, and survey of the north eastern portion well advanced.
