600mm Interceptor Sewer Catchment Study and Duplication – Clondalkin

Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates (CSEA) were appointed by South Dublin County Council to undertake an assessment of a 600mm diameter sewer which intercepts flows from the Grangecastle and Kilmahuddrick areas of Clondalkin and conveys them to the 1200mm diameter 9B arterial sewer on the Nangor Road.

The assessment included a catchment study to determine the extent of the existing network and the current and future inflow, a condition survey and line and level survey of the existing pipeline. The assessment determined that the sewer did not have adequate hydraulic capacity for predicted flows and that there were a number of serious structural issues along the length of the sewer. The proposed solution was to duplicate the existing sewer and to undertake remedial works at the more serious structural issues on the existing pipeline.

On completion of the study CSEA undertook detailed design and the documentation to secure the wayleave for the duplicate sewer which included a crossing of an existing 36" high pressure gas main. CSEA also acted as PSDP and provided technical advice to South Dublin County Council during the construction of the sewer by direct labour.
