Grange Castle Business Park Attenuation Pond

CSEA were appointed by South Dublin County Council to develop an attenuation pond to cater for surface water runoff from their flagship Business Park at Grangecastle, Clondalkin. The brief was to provide a pond which met the hydrological requirements but also provided a significant amenity feature within the Business Park. CSEA with the assistance of a landscaping sub consultant developed a split level attenuation pond which provides attenuation of runoff from approximately 500 acres of industrial land with a storage capacity of 30,000m3. A number of special hydraulic structures are incorporated into the pond including a submerged inlet, hidden outlet weir and an overflow structure. The outflow from the pond is controlled by a throttle pipe with a discharge to a local stream.

The pond is landscaped to a high standard and incorporates soft and hard landscaping features and furniture to enhance the amenity use of the pond. The lake incorporates two 20m high fountains, a pumped system which circulates water within the pond to prevent stagnation and groundwater supply to maintain water levels during sustained dry periods.

CSEA provided a full service from inception to completion. This included preliminary design, planning permission via a part 8 process, detail design, procurement and contract administration. CSEA also procured and managed contracts for archaeological investigations, groundwater source investigation and landscaping.
