Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates were appointed as Lead Consultants for extension to the Kilkenny Northern Ring Road from the existing roundabout with the N77 Castlecomer Road to the R693 Freshford Road.
The scheme, complex in nature, requires the road to cross the River Nore and approximately 800m of floodplain to the east of the river. The solution to the flooding issue, following extensive flood monitoring, involves a 3-span 100metre long structural steel bridge and multiple large culverts through the proposed road embankment on the floodplain will allow the flood water to dissipate following a flood event at the same rate and in the same manner as that which occurs at present.
