Grand Canal Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge, Adamstown

CSEA were the Project Managers, Civil/ Structural Design Engineers and PSDP responsible for the design and construction of a high quality dedicated pedestrian and cycle route from the Grand Canal Green Route to Griffeen Valley Park at Adamstown.

The bridge structure was designed as a structural steelwork superstructure on reinforced concrete columns. CSEA liased closely with the Architects Department of South Dublin County Council to design a bridge to be a landmark to the new Green Route. This included the inclusion of striking handrail/railing design and the provision of a unique colour paint to ensure the bridge is a beacon for the route. The bridge was designed as being fully compliant with universal accessibility providing ramped access to the Canal crossing.

The bridge crossed the Grand Canal SAC and the associated Biodiversity zones and, as such, required extensive liason with Waterways Ireland and National Parks & Willdlife Service (NPWS). This Multi-disciplinary approach between CSEA, SDCC, NPWS and Waterways Ireland ensured the successful execution of this landmark structure.

CSEA obtained statutory approval for the scheme including public and environmental consultations. CSEA completed detailed design and contract documentation for the project and supervised the work on site to handover to the Client.
