Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates (CSEA) were appointed as Project Managers and Engineering Consultants by the National Roads Authority (NRA) to compile 'Eirspan' Bridge Management System records for all bridge structures in 6 counties - Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon, Offaly, Laois and North Tipperary. The 'Eirspan' project involved the Structural Inspection of all 3500 National Road Bridges throughout the country.
CSEA were responsible for the inspection and reporting on 250 bridge structures ranging from 150+ year old masonry bridges to more recent concrete, steel and cast iron bridge structures.
The ultimate result of this work was to create a database of all bridge structures in Ireland, including inventory records (i.e. the physical properties of the bridge including dimensional survey and construction materials) and an assessment rating of all structures via general and principal inspections.
Upon completion of the inspections and reports, a number of repairs were required to be completed immediately including repair of parapets, expansion joints and bearings.
CSEA were responsible for the creation of contract documentation for said repair works and supervision of the works on site.
