Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates were appointed as Employer's Representative and Civil/Structural Engineers for the replacement of the bridge deck of existing bridge crossing the River Barrow.
The original bridge deck consisted of timber boarding on steel girders. The replacement deck was constructed using precast prestressed concrete beams with a reinforced concrete topping. The works involved retaining, cutting back and refurbishing the existing piers in the river.
The contract also included construction of new slipways for boat access to the river by the Civil Defence.
