Tallaght / Ballyboden Green Route - Dodder Valley Park Bridge Lift

The Dodder Valley Park Pedestrian & Cycle Bridge forms an essential element of  an overall cycle route scheme from Tallaght to Ballyboden which comprises of 1.7km of shared surfacing to facilitate pedestrians and cyclists between the Dodder Valley Park at Old Bawn Road and the Dodder Valley Park at Firhouse Road.  A total of two bridges are to be constructed. A 52m clear span bridge over the Dodder River and a 23m clear span bridge over the Ballycullen Stream. The larger 52m spanning bridge was lifted into position on the 16th October 2014.

This bridge has been designed as a tapered vierendeel type truss which is aided by cable stays anchored to a 18m tall pylon. The bridge deck is 4m wide and has a GRP light weight deck bolted to a secondary structure underneath.

The bridge was installed with handrails and deck in situ and weighs a total of 82 tonnes. Crane Hire Limited provided the 750 tonne mobile telescopic crane necessary to install the bridge.
